It
is difficult to get a camping spot at Fort Clinch State Park. Every camper we
talked to said they reserved their site eleven months in advance. Lots of people winter here (but only for 2 weeks then they have to move to another state park). But, as a “local”
(we live less than an hour from the park); we were able to take advantage of a
two day opening. We’ve been here before (1, 2, 3, 4) but it is a great park to visit and revisit.
The
first day was windy! Luckily the campsites are somewhat protected by dunes.
Here’s the view from our back window.
The campsites are a quick walk to the beach. The beach was full of foam from the waves.
Even
with the weather, we could walk the beach between rains. People find shark
teeth here but we didn’t find any on this trip. Perhaps the storms were a
problem. However, we found lots of shells along with an occasional jellyfish.
….and
saw birds.
We
walked the beaches, did a short hike, and biked to several geocaches.
The weather on our last day was better. We biked within the park to find the last geocache and see the local lighthouse from a distance.
And
the sunrise was nice!
Back at home,
here is one of John’s hobbies.
