Reunions

My high school class had their (mumble, mumble)th  reunion. That gave me an excuse to travel to Ohio to see them on Friday night and see college friends on Saturday/Sunday. Our group was small on Friday but that gave us more of a chance to really talk. We actually talked long enough to close the bar at midnight. We haven’t done that in a LONG time.

Bill and Doreen and I used to get together every year to discuss the meaning of life (still searching for it). It’s been too long! We visited COSI in Columbus and played more than many of the kids.

I dragged them to a pet cemetery that was close to our hotel. They say that it was started back in the 1920’s. The stones were randomly spread out and not well maintained.

Fascinating names and inscriptions.

One of the jokes was that across the street from the pet cemetery was ARFF parking (Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting) for the Columbus airport.

We also visited a large rose garden in town.

And another of my weird ones…the first woman to fly solo around the world started and ended at Columbus Ohio. They call this the “Flying Housewife” statue and it is located within the airport.

Santa Barbara

I took a short trip to Santa Barbara California for a meeting. The weather was gorgeous. Florida is just hot and humid in the summer while Santa Barbara is in the 70’s and lower humidity. I loved that they had bike lanes and great sidewalks for walking in town. Of course the bad part of living there is that the prices are terrible. Someone said that an “OK” house was $900,000+. The hotel room was $250 a night so I ended up staying in an Airbnb in an RV (!) that was still $100 a night.

Our group enjoyed a few hours on a sail boat. We saw both sea lions and seals (these are seals).
