The Granite State

They call New Hampshire the Granite State for a reason.  It’s everywhere.  It’s just surprising to see granite curbstones in a rest area.  The thing we didn’t like was the prices in New Hampshire.  There are places you have to pay $15 per person so you can hike to see a waterfall.  You know, waterfalls are pretty.  But we’ve seen a bunch of them for free.

One place where hiking is free is the Basin and the Catch Basin.  Because everything is granite the streams don’t seem to have small river stones but have large boulders or solid rock with swirls worn out of them.  It’s sort of like a water park made of granite.  The water is way too cold to jump in, but it looks fun.

We camped along a highway with some great mountain views.

I can’t stop from adding a picture of a cemetery.  This one had a fence of granite.

Oh, and just because he’s cute.

We’re in Maine now.  That makes 35 states visited in our RV so far.  I’m flying out of a local airport on a business trip while John plays golf (hopefully) and perhaps buys a new TV since the old one died in a lighting storm.  I haven’t seen much of Maine, but the stars are fantastic!
