Vermont Food Day

Vermont may not be big and they probably don’t have very many farms and industry compared to other states, but they sell their product very well.  The farms are small, but they work in a co-operative.  Many places have tours or tastings and sell their product directly to tourists.  Right now all I can say is…YUM!

We started with the most famous, Ben & Jerry’s.  Ben & Jerry’s emphasize the sustainability of their products.  Personally, I love their message and I also love the ice cream. Have you had Liz Lemon Greek Frozen Yogurt or Pumpkin Cheesecake?  Really good!

We had to see their graveyard too.  This one is different from all the other cemeteries I’ve visited since it is full of failed ice cream flavors.

Vermont is also very environmental.  Here are old trucks and new solar panels at a cider mill.  Plus, we watched cider being made (and had a sample).  They mention that the apple pomace that is left from making cider is used fed to pigs.  And it gives the bacon an apple taste!

We stopped for some Vermont beer and Vermont wine.  I don’t know about the beer (not opened yet), but we enjoyed the wine tasting.

Cabot Creamery was delicious too.  There were lots of samples of cheese, dip, and butter.  I’ve seen the curds and whey process in making cheese on TV, but never in person, so that was cool.

A very delicious day!
