Life is rough

“Life is rough, isn’t it?”  That’s what we’ve been saying to each other when we are sitting on a beach and watching the waves.  After 2 days at Mexico Beach, we moved to Grayton Beach State Park for 2 days.  No internet or cable, just a beautiful beach with palm trees and powder white sand.  It’s too cold to swim (except for a few hardy kids), but I like taking walks along the water's edge while John has been using his metal detector.  Besides bottle caps, he found a penny!  No riches.

By the way, I know that some day there will be payback for gloating about beaches while it snows up North.  Until that day I'm enjoying the warm weather.

The park has an area with what appears to be sand dunes with small bushes on top.  These are actually trees!  You can see in the next picture that the tree trunk comes up, then back down toward the ground.   Sand will fill in the branches and then all you can see is the top branches of the tree. The park also has 'dune lakes'.  Every morning right before sunrise, the air is full of bird song as hundreds of birds wake up for the day.

I love the camp site too.  There are RV parks that have sites so close you can smell the neighbor's sewer and look into their living room and watch their TV.  The sites here are surrounded by trees and palms.  We watch squirrels jumping between the trees.  While I know the next RV isn't too far away, the brush pretty much blocks the view.

Next we're on to Pensacola Florida.  No beach planned, but we do want to do some sightseeing in the area.
