Boondocking
is dry camping for free. Over time, we’ve found we can dry camp (no water or
electric hook-ups) for about 3 days without running the generator. We’ve camped
for 4 days without needing water or to dump tanks. If we tried, I’m sure we
could go longer.
We’ve
boondocked several times in the last few months, but it’s been mostly at
Walmart’s, rest areas, or in family and friends driveways. The best places are
in the middle of nowhere. I use www.freecampsites.net
and the ebooks I purchased from www.frugal-rv-travel.com
to find these places. This time we went
to a spot on the beach that was listed in both. We definitely wouldn’t have found
it without that information since it was off the beaten path (Magnolia Beach, Texas). We were a bit
confused and hesitant to camp even though we had the coordinates of the spot
since there were no signs that said camping was allowed. But there were a few
other RV’s on the beach and we decided to stop.
Fabulous!
We camped on what seemed to be our private beach. I pulled out my camp chair and
enjoyed the view. What a wonderful place to enjoy a book.
The
next morning it started to rain so we were off to our next stop before we got
stuck in the sand.
