San Antonio

Last week I was at a convention in San Antonio. Most of the week was inside the convention center or walking in a mist and with cloudy days. The Tower of the Americas looks like some sort of UFO in the mist.

I stayed in an Airbnb about a mile from the convention center. The owner told me the area was safe even at night. What he forgot to tell me was about the scooters. Walking in the evening is dangerous with all the people scooting around going way too fast plus they like to leave the scooters in the middle of the sidewalks when they are done with them. No pictures of them, but here’s some art in the park.
Thursday was finally a sunny day plus I had an afternoon off. I walked the downtown section of Riverwalk. Boats passed by and the walk was full of people from the conference along with the normal tourists.

While some parts of the walk were quieter.

Here’s the stage from Miss Congeniality, or at least the place it was supposed to be since it seemed bigger in the movie.

I’ve been to San Fernando Cathedral before. Matter of fact, we biked here. Outside on the plaza was a great singer performing for tips. Inside a casket near the front door is supposedly the remains of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Travis from the Alamo but no one really knows whose ashes these are.

On a lighter note, at love lock bridge there is a tradition to bring a lock with you and your lover's initials or names on it. The key is thrown in the water to keep your relationship locked together forever. (Though, now as I write this it sounds kind of creepy.)

Tiring week, but I love San Antonio.

Just wanted to solve some of the problems you mentioned in your article on horror stories from GPS. If your GPS has the choice of 3D or 2D maps. Only use 2D Because it actually gives you a map to look at instead of 3D that just shows an arrow going down a fake road. With 2D you can actually see where your vehicle arrow is and what street your approaching. So you know if you should turn there are not. And it helps if you check out your route ahead of time. You can't just punch in the route and take off expecting it to be right every time. After all GPS software is written by humans and they're not perfect. And streets are constantly being added and modified. I started using GPS in 95 on a laptop because there wasn't any other way to use it unless you wanted to pay several hundred dollars for a device. I've researched all brands of GPS and found ALK's "COPILOT" is by far the best one. It's available for your cell phone in 4 different versions. There's a free one But that one doesn't talk to you. I use the $9.99 one and found it to do everything I need it to do. The RV one cost $60. But I don't need GPS to tell me anything but where I'm at, and where I'm going. They're a ton of apps that will tell you everything else you need to know, like truck stops, campgrounds, RV parks, etc. I now have a Samsung Galaxy 10 inch tablet mounted in our truck so I can actually see the map instead of trying to read a tiny cell phone map while driving down the road towing a 16,000 lb 5th wheel. Copilot also lets you just touch the location on the screen where you want to go and it will route you there. Instead of haveing to put in an address. Hope this helps.
