There’s
a lot of ways to handle watching TV in an RV.
You can use satellite. Our RV originally had a satellite dish but it was
broke. While we considered buying a new
one and then paying a monthly fee, we realized we can live quite well without
it. You can see RV’ers using satellite dishes on top their rigs or running wire
to a dish 10-20 feet from the RV. The problem is that RV’s are frequently
parked under trees and satellite reception is poor under trees.
In
general, we watch TV when an RV park has free connections. I’d say 50% have connections. State parks and
national parks don’t have these connections.
If we don’t have a connection, we use our antennae. We get anywhere from 1 to 100 TV channels
over the air. Mostly we get the main
channels though sometimes it’s only MeTV, but watching the old shows can be
fun. If none of that works or we don’t
like what is on, we pull out the DVD’s.
We’ve stocked plenty of DVD. We
left the cases in storage and filled up album cases to save space. I like the old movies best.
For
internet, we wait until we are in an RV park with free internet. Sometimes state parks have internet at the
offices. Lately we’ve been using wifi
when we’ve visited family. Plus, if we’re desperate, there is always the
ability to stop at a McDonald’s and catch up on email.
Probably
the biggest thing we miss is the DVR so we can stop and rewind or record to
skip over commercials. We could buy one,
but that’s one more complication we don’t really need.
Finally,
John likes to listen to the radio. I have my Kindle with me with LOTS of
books. So I can always relax and read a
book.
