Today we started out to do some sightseeing. I was discussing how proud I was that I had worked it out where we'd be visiting on Saturday since one of the places was closed on Sunday. At which point John reminded me it was Sunday! I forgot that I mostly slept though Saturday trying to get better.
We quickly modified our day. It actually made it interesting going to a nearby mission on Sunday. We've gone to several missions, but they have been mostly ruins with certain portions restored. This mission was restored and in use for mass everyday and 4 times on Sunday. It is located on a reservation serving the O'odham people. The mission is gorgeous with Moorish influences. The inside is pretty incredible, but I couldn't take pictures during the service. We may go back later to see the inside better.
It was a unique visit for us. The church was full of people in every pew. In the back was a rotating group of tourists looking at the church. Outside on a plaza was several stands selling traditional flat bread with different toppings. Plus, there is a hill with a cross at the top with tourists walking around it.
Another interesting thing was the 'graffiti' or maybe memorials. From the hill you can see names written with rocks below. Not sure what this is.
We finished the day by walking on the paths at the RV park. At most places, walking just means walking around the RV sites. Some have a few paths. This one is amazing! The paths are a one mile desert circuit within their own property and includes signs explaining some of the plants or mountains in the background. Then it connects to county property where you can walk miles. Should be fun!
