Saturday's walk in the desert was just a 2 mile hike. That's an easy hike (though I'm glad we brought water with us). Sunday we went to Sabino Canyon. You take a shuttle to the top of the canyon then walk back down. Or, you can take the shuttle between any of 9 stops. Or, as we are sweating as we hiked back, we saw many people jogging up then jogging back. OK, we get it. You're in shape! We ended up hiking 5 miles at the canyon. That was enough for a nice Sunday afternoon. Our legs are still twitching a bit.
It's a very popular hiking spot. It's rated #2 of 139 attractions in Tucson. The park gets 1.25 million visitors a year. That's in comparison to the only 10,000 visitors a year Fort Bowie gets.
Some of the rock formations have names. This picture is of "The Winking Rock".
