Dead Horse State Park

The scene in the movie “Thelma and Louise” where they drove off the cliff was filmed near here. We were told it was from a cliff below and to the right in this picture.

The view from above includes solar evaporation ponds used to obtain potassium chloride, a salt mostly used in fertilizer. They pump water underground to dissolve the KCl and then it is evaporated in these ponds. The blue color is used so the water evaporates quicker.
