New York Stops

In New York we stopped at the Herkimer ‘Diamond’ Mines.  I purposely put diamond in quotes.  The rocks are quartz but it’s a faceted and clear type of quartz.  They crystals are popular with New Age type of people.  We considered going out to the mine area to spend the day breaking rocks, but we didn’t have time and/or inclination.  So we bought a bag of gravel that’s “Guaranteed” to have some pieces.  Sometime we’ll go through the bag.  Matter of fact, we still have a bag from the Arkansas diamond mine.  So we might have both types of diamonds.

The factory that makes Remington arms has been in business for years (since 1828!) and appears to be still going strong with a very full parking lot of employees. The factory has a little museum that was interesting.

Old guns and new guns were displayed along with a video giving the history of the Remington brand and showing the modern production process in making rifles.
