Stan Hywet

Stan Hywet was the home of Franklin Seiberling who co-founded Goodyear Tire & Rubber.  The house is 64,500 square feet.  It seems sort of like the Great Gatsby in conspicuous consumption and is from the same era.  It’s cool to see but who really needs all of this?  The best thing you can say is they must have kept a lot of people working as gardeners, groomsmen, butlers, cooks, and maids.

I loved all the chimneys on this house.  Twenty-three fireplaces!

A touch of autumn.

Love the copper detail but I was surprised at this large wasp nest!!!

My favorite of the many gardens is the Japanese garden.

Years ago I saw a Shakespeare play performed here.  Turns out Jen saw the same play given here just a few years ago.

Statue in the English garden.

The quarry. Stan Hywet is Old English for “stone quarry”.  Lots to see here.  We visited at a great time to see all the flowers.
