Vermont

Vermont looks exactly as I pictured it…gorgeous.   Little towns with old but very well kept up houses.  Many of the houses have signs like “The Somebody-Important-But-I’ve- Never-Heard-of-Them House”, well, something like that.  There are white churches, old cemeteries, and red barns everywhere. The roads wind through the trees with mountains in the background.  We’ve seen several people alongside the road painting pictures.  We chose this time to visit because kids are already back in school but the “leaf peepers” (fall tourists) haven’t arrived yet.  To me it seems perfect.  Cool in the evenings but comfortable during the day.

I’ve heard about the independent spirit of Vermont citizens.  A tour guide told us that Vermont was an independent nation for a longer time then Texas was a nation. It seems every road is called “Pvt Something”, meaning a private road.  We both first thought they were named after some private in a war until we saw how many privates there were.

We parked by a gurgling stream (or maybe a babbling brook?) in our first RV park in Vermont.  Our second night was in the trees overlooking a lake with rain coming down while we slept.  Nothing like hearing flowing water to go to sleep.  Third night the temperature dropped into the 30’s so extra blankets came out.  Cell phone and internet service has been almost nonexistent, so these posts are building up for one big posting.
