Palo Duro State Park - Creatures

The animals at Palo Duro aren’t as exotic as the last two campgrounds, but at least the turkeys are friendly. We were welcomed to the park by a couple of large birds in our campsite. Altogether, we’ve seen 6 turkeys wandering around at different times. They are all fat and ready for Thanksgiving (OK, kidding!).

We saw lots of deer prints plus this deer came into camp (our car is in the background). The next day a deer walked through our campsite while I was sitting outside. Very cool!

Mostly we’re just seeing prints along the path, especially since we had a heavy rain and the prints are clear. Here’s two animals: 2 raccoon prints on the left and a coyote on the right. We’ve been hearing coyote howling every night.

We’re pretty sure this is a bobcat. The claws match but the dirt is too hard to see the pads.

We’re seeing a lot of torn up ground which is due to feral hogs, but no sightings (which is good because they are supposed to be very aggressive). There are supposed to be rattlesnakes around. That’s not new, but the problem is that the grasshoppers are extremely active. As you are walking along the trail, you hear a rattling in the brush and then something jumps out and hits your leg. And then it happens again.  Very invigorating!
