Peter Wolf Toth’s Sculptures

Peter Wolf Toth is an artist that made 74 sculptures with at least one in each state plus a few in Canada called “Trail of the Whispering Giants”. The sculptures are his interpretation of heads of local Native Americans in wood. The wood for the sculptures is donated locally and his expenses are paid by the town or other group. We saw our first in Akron, but have learned it was removed this year due to insect damage.

We didn’t stop, but here’s one of his pieces in Two Harbors, Minnesota made in 1977.

We camped across from this one in Wakefield Michigan made in 1988.

This one isn’t really in good condition. The wood is replaced with foam in places and the local woodpeckers must be a bit confused since it looks like several holes were made by them in that foam.

The park by our campground in Wakefield had several “Edith Ann” chairs (or, at least that what I call them).

We also saw “The World’s Largest Corkscrew” in front of a liquor store while driving to Michigan. Again, we didn’t stop and I wasn’t prepared to take a picture. I’m not sure where my line is for weird, but this one didn’t seem important enough to turn an RV around. Here’s the google street view of it.

The coolest thing at the park is that I saw an eagle on my morning walk. And…Michigan is our 44th state to visit in the RV! BTW, we’ve heard several “eh”s since we’ve been in the Upper Peninsula. I guess it’s not just a Canadian thing.
